If you are researching the cost of wisdom tooth extraction in London, you are asking the right question first. Fees vary based on the position and complexity of the tooth, and a clear understanding of pricing — alongside what the fee actually covers — helps you make an informed decision. At Cosmetic Dentistry Clinic in South Kensington (SW7), our extraction fees follow a transparent three-tier structure, with all costs explained in writing before any treatment proceeds.
How much does wisdom tooth extraction cost in London?
At Cosmetic Dentistry Clinic, private wisdom tooth extraction costs:
- Simple extraction: from £250 (Member: from £125)
- Complicated extraction: from £450 (Member: from £225)
- Surgical extraction: from £650 (Member: from £325)
A clinical assessment (£95) and any necessary X-rays are charged separately. All fees are confirmed in writing before treatment begins.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction Fees in Detail
Our pricing structure reflects the actual clinical work involved. A fully erupted upper wisdom tooth is generally straightforward; a lower wisdom tooth that is angled, partially erupted, or covered by bone requires a more involved surgical approach, longer clinical time, and additional materials. The correct tier is determined during your clinical assessment after reviewing your X-rays.
| Service | Standard Fee | Member Fee (50% Off) |
|---|---|---|
| Simple ExtractionFully erupted, straightforward access | from £250 | from £125 |
| Complicated ExtractionPartially erupted, curved roots, restricted access | from £450 | from £225 |
| Surgical ExtractionBony impaction or tooth sectioning required | from £650 | from £325 |
| Consultation & Clinical Assessment | £95 | £47.50 |
| Periapical X-ray (if required) | £20 | £10 |
| Panoramic X-ray / OPG Referred to Dental Imaging Centre · charged separately | £60 | £60 |
Fees shown are starting prices ("from £") and reflect typical cases. Your final fee depends on individual clinical findings and is confirmed in writing after assessment. Fees correct at the time of publication and may be reviewed periodically.
What Determines Which Tier Applies to You?
Several clinical factors influence the complexity of your wisdom tooth extraction and therefore the fee tier. Your dentist will explain how each factor relates to your case after reviewing your X-rays:
Eruption Status
A fully erupted wisdom tooth — one that has come through the gum — is generally more straightforward than a partially erupted or fully impacted tooth.
Position and Angulation
Teeth tilted forward, sideways, or backward against neighbouring structures often require sectioning, which increases complexity.
Root Anatomy
Curved, divergent, or fused roots — visible on X-ray — can make removal more involved than a tooth with simple, straight roots.
Bone Coverage
A tooth covered by bone requires a small surgical access, which is reflected in the surgical extraction tier.
Upper vs Lower
Upper wisdom teeth are frequently more accessible. Lower wisdom teeth more often fall into the complicated or surgical tier.
Proximity to Nerves and Sinus
Lower wisdom teeth close to the inferior alveolar nerve, and upper wisdom teeth close to the maxillary sinus, are assessed carefully and may need additional planning.
What Is Included in the Extraction Fee?
We believe in transparent inclusions, so you know exactly what your fee covers and what (if anything) is charged separately:
Included in Your Extraction Fee
- ✓ Local anaesthetic for the procedure
- ✓ The extraction itself (including sectioning where required)
- ✓ Dissolvable sutures, where placed
- ✓ Sterile single-use surgical instruments
- ✓ Written post-operative instructions
- ✓ Direct contact number for post-op concerns
- ✓ Routine post-op review where clinically indicated
Charged Separately
- • Initial consultation & assessment (£95)
- • Periapical X-ray (£20 if needed)
- • Panoramic X-ray / OPG (£60, paid directly to Dental Imaging Centre)
- • Antibiotics or specific medication, if clinically required
- • Any treatment for a separate condition identified during your visit
Imaging: Why an OPG May Be Needed
For most lower wisdom teeth — and some upper ones — a panoramic X-ray (OPG) is recommended. This shows your dentist the full position of the roots and their relationship to nearby nerves and sinuses, which is essential for safe planning. Where this imaging is needed, we refer to a trusted local dental imaging centre.
Imaging fee: The OPG fee of £60 is paid directly to Dental Imaging Centre. We do not mark up imaging fees. Your dentist will review the resulting image as part of your assessment and discuss the findings with you in plain language.
Anaesthesia: What's Included, What Isn't
All wisdom tooth extractions at our clinic are performed under local anaesthetic only, which is included in the extraction fee. The cost of any additional injections needed for full numbness is also covered.
We do not provide intravenous (IV) sedation, conscious sedation, or general anaesthetic in-house. If your case is best managed with sedation or hospital-based care, we will discuss referral to a specialist oral surgery service. Where sedation or general anaesthetic is used elsewhere, those fees are set by the specialist provider and are not included in our quote. Acting within our area of competence is part of our commitment to safe, GDC-compliant practice.
How You'll Receive Your Quote
Consultation and Examination
Your dentist will examine the tooth, review your medical history, and assess any current symptoms during a dedicated consultation appointment.
Imaging Where Required
Where appropriate, a periapical X-ray is taken in clinic, or you are referred for an OPG at Dental Imaging Centre. We never recommend imaging that is not clinically justified.
Written Treatment Plan and Estimate
You receive a written treatment plan setting out the recommended approach, the fee tier that applies, what is included, and any item charged separately — in line with General Dental Council standards on transparent pricing.
Informed Consent and Booking
You are given time to consider the plan and ask questions. Treatment only proceeds with your written informed consent, after the benefits, risks, and alternatives have been discussed.
Ways to Pay and Reduce the Cost
Pay on the Day
Card and contactless payments are accepted at reception following treatment.
Privilege Membership
Members receive 50% off all extraction fees. See our Membership page for full details and eligibility.
0% Finance Options
Subject to status, treatment costs can be spread over 12 months at 0% APR Representative. See our Finance page for terms.
Finance disclosure: Finance is provided by an FCA-authorised third party and is subject to status. Cosmetic Dentistry Clinic is a credit broker, not a lender. Full terms are provided before you commit. Membership savings are not combinable with promotional offers; see Membership terms for details.
Private vs NHS Wisdom Tooth Extraction
You may also be eligible for wisdom tooth extraction on the NHS, particularly where removal is clinically necessary. We are a private dental clinic and do not offer NHS treatment. The choice between NHS and private care is yours, and we are happy to set out the differences honestly:
- NHS wisdom tooth extraction is charged at the standard NHS Band 2 fee where eligible, or Band 3 if a more complex procedure is provided in a hospital setting. NHS waiting times and eligibility vary.
- Private extraction at our clinic typically offers shorter waiting times, longer appointments, and continuity of care with the same dentist throughout assessment, treatment, and review.
- If you are eligible for NHS care and prefer that route, please speak to your NHS dentist or GP, who can refer you to an oral surgery service if needed.
For current NHS dental charges, please refer to the official NHS website. We are happy to share the trade-offs of each route during your assessment so you can make the choice that suits you best.
What the Fee Does Not Remove: Honest Discussion of Risk
Paying a private fee does not eliminate the inherent risks of any surgical procedure. As part of valid informed consent — and in line with General Dental Council standards — we discuss all material risks before treatment. These include:
- Pain, swelling, and bruising in the days following extraction
- Dry socket (delayed healing of the socket)
- Temporary limited mouth opening (trismus)
- Nerve disturbance — usually temporary; permanent altered sensation is rare and risk is assessed via X-ray
- Rare sinus communication with upper wisdom teeth
- Post-operative infection — uncommon, may require antibiotics
A full discussion of these risks, and how they relate to your case, is included as standard. For a more detailed overview of the procedure itself, see our main Wisdom Tooth Extraction page.

Meet our clinical teamFrequently Asked Questions About Cost
How much does it cost to have a wisdom tooth removed in London?
At Cosmetic Dentistry Clinic, private wisdom tooth extraction starts from £250 for a simple case, £450 for a complicated case, and £650 for a surgical case. Privilege Members pay 50% of these fees. A consultation (£95) and any necessary X-rays are charged separately.
Why is there a price range rather than a fixed fee?
Wisdom tooth removal varies considerably in complexity. A fully erupted upper wisdom tooth is very different from a bony-impacted lower one. We use a three-tier structure so the fee reflects the actual clinical work involved, and your individual quote is confirmed in writing after assessment.
Will I know the exact cost before treatment starts?
Yes. After your consultation and any necessary imaging, you receive a written treatment plan with your specific fee, what is included, and any items charged separately. Treatment only proceeds once you have given informed consent.
Is the consultation fee included in the extraction fee?
No. The consultation (£95, or £47.50 for Members) is charged separately and covers the clinical assessment, medical history review, treatment planning, and discussion of options.
Do you offer 0% finance for wisdom tooth extraction?
Yes — 0% APR Representative finance over 12 months is available subject to status, provided by an FCA-authorised lender. Cosmetic Dentistry Clinic is a credit broker, not a lender. Full terms are provided before you commit.
How much can I save with Privilege Membership?
Members receive 50% off all extraction fees. For a single complicated extraction, this is a saving of £225. See our Membership page for full eligibility and joining details.
Why is an OPG charged separately?
Panoramic imaging is provided by a specialist external imaging centre — Dental Imaging Centre — to whom we refer for the highest quality scans. The £60 imaging fee is paid directly to the imaging provider, with no mark-up from us.
Do you offer sedation, and is it included in the fee?
No. We do not offer sedation in-house. All wisdom tooth extractions are performed under local anaesthetic, which is included in the extraction fee. If sedation or general anaesthetic is appropriate for your case, we will discuss referral to a specialist provider — those fees are set by the specialist, not by us.
Can I get wisdom tooth extraction on the NHS instead?
You may be eligible for NHS wisdom tooth extraction, particularly if removal is clinically necessary. We are a private clinic and do not offer NHS treatment. Please speak to your NHS dentist or GP if you would prefer the NHS route.
What if my case is more complex than the surgical tier?
If we believe your case would be better managed by a specialist oral surgery service — for example a bony impaction with very high nerve proximity — we will discuss this openly during your consultation and arrange a referral. Specialist fees in that setting are determined by the specialist provider.
